1. Who will benefit most from NASSLLI?

NASSLLI courses are aimed at graduate students and advanced undergraduates in wide variety of fields. The instructors know that people will be attending from a wide range of disciplines, and they all are pleased to be associated with an interdisciplinary school. The courses will also appeal to post-docs and researchers in all of the relevant fields.

2. How many people will attend NASSLLI?

This will be the second running of NASSLLI. The first year saw 150 students, we hope to have some more.

3. What will the format of NASSLLI be (lectures, paper presentations, etc.)?

There will be 11 courses and one workshop that will last 5 days, with a 90 minutes lecture every day for each course. There will also be a daily Student Session where Graduate Students will present their work.

In the evenings, we will have social events and plenary lectures.

4. Where should I fly to?

You should fly to Indianapolis Airport. Please DO NOT fly to Bloomington, Illinois!

5. What are the fees for attending NASSLLI?

6. What will the accomodations be?
You have several options on accomodations. We have arranged dormitory space in a renovated, air conditioned building. It has single rooms with bathrooms shared between two rooms. The cost will be $37 person/night + 11% tax. You will need to reserve a place by writing to us, and you also will need to pay for this while here. These rooms are about 15 minutes away by foot from the classes.

There are other options as well. The Indiana Memorial Union has a regular hotel, and it is closer to the classes. Bloomington has bed-and-breakfast options. The least expensive way would be to have two or more people share a hotel room several miles from campus.

7. Are there any grants available?

NASSLLI has recently received some funds that we'd like to use to support student attendance.

If you are interested, please send us a letter saying that you are planning to attend NASSLLI, what your field of study is, how far along you are, and how much of the expenses for NASSLLI you are paying yourself. Please also ask your adivsor, or a faculty person who knows you well, to also send us a short note. We expect to have a reasonable number of $100 registration reductions available.

If you already registered for NASSLLI, you still can apply for the reduction.

The Association for Symbolic Logic has also generously offered to help some students who are ASL members attend NASSLLI. Please check with the ASL on how to apply for this funding.

8. How do I walk from the university to the reception?

The reception will be held at Woodburn House, 519 N. College Ave. This is about 1 mile from the part of campus where the sessions will be held. To walk from Rawles Hall (where the coffee room is located), go out the back door and look towards the wooded section of campus. You will see several diagonal roads across the woods, and the one you want is the northwest one, the one that makes a 45 degree angle with the edges of the woods. Taking this will lead you to the corner of Indiana and Kirkwood Streets. Take Kirkwood St west for several blocks, until you arrive at Walnut St. You'll see a big courthouse square there. Turn right up Walnut St. until you get to Ninth St. At this point, you'll want to make a left turn and go one short block to the parallel main street, College Ave. Woodburn House is 1/2 a block north, on the west side of the street.

It is across from the Waffle House parking lot. Due to some construction, you might want to delay crossing College Ave. as long as possible.

9. How do I get to Bloomington?

10. What is happening on Monday?

NASSLLI begins on Tuesday with classes at 9:00 AM. On Monday night, some of us will be gathering informally at Bears' Place (3rd and Jordan) at 8:30 PM. In addition, we will be stopping by Willkie Hall throughout the day to give people their registration packets. Some packets have also been left off at the desk, and also at the Indiana Memorail Union.
